Demystifying the Fuse Cleanse/Detox –You Can Do This (and Yes, You Get to Eat)

I know what you are thinking. A 21-day detox/cleanse sounds intense. Impossible even. Something only uber healthy girls would sign up for.  Is it really worth it?  Fuse student ambassador Melissa Sharp took some time out to tell us about her experience. Before I signed up for what turned out to be a life-changing three weeks, I was incredibly intimidated for a million reasons. For starters, my idea of cooking was microwaving a frozen meal. I literally used to use my stove for storage. My mom doesn’t cook, and I’ve never learned the basics so cooking anything has always been a foreign concept to me. And going to the grocery store was even worse; I avoided it at all costs. Plus I love food, wine and coffee. I’m not one to worry excessively about what I eat. So before I even knew what the cleanse entailed, I was nervous. But comingled with the nerves was a bit of curiosity. I had been working out and doing Pilates 4-5 times a week for close to a year and although I could definitely tell that my body was toning up, I wasn’t losing weight. I didn’t want to admit it, but now that I’m in my thirties, I was pretty sure if I wanted to lose weight I needed to take a closer look at my diet. I had heard fellow Fuse students talk about the cleanse back in January. They raved about the benefits. I liked the idea of committing to something like this with a group. I’m a social person and knew I would need the support and accountability of going through something like this with others. And I hoped I would learn some basics about nutrition and what works for my body. I was ready to invest in making a real change, so I decided to go for it. And I am so grateful I did. I’m not going to lie, grocery shopping the Sunday before the cleanse started was overwhelming. I had no idea where things were, what I was buying, how much it would cost or what to do with everything when I got it all back to my apartment. Chopping vegetables was an experience. I never in a million-years thought I would make homemade soup, but I discovered that I can follow directions and use my stove without burning down my building – a major accomplishment. The cleanse kicked off and with health coach Ginny Johnson’s inspiring and encouraging daily emails, along with the community of other cleaners, I stuck with it. I learned how to grocery shop and how to cook a few different dishes. I flushed out all the toxins in my system and made room for more veggies. After the first few days on the cleanse, I felt great, had plenty of energy, my skin looked clearer and I was shedding pounds. It was like the weight wanted to slip away. What’s even better, I’ve kept it off and have lost even more weight since the cleanse ended. I picked up so many health nutritional habits on the cleanse that I have incorporated into my everyday life. It truly was an investment in becoming a healthier and happier me.   1. Detoxifying will help our body removed all unwanted toxins and food that we ingest into our system. It takes a lot of discipline to do it, but if you are determine to cleanse, you’ll reap and enjoy the benefits of detox cleansing after your program.
